“I think that frustration, in many ways, is due to the pace and speed at which the industry is moving,” Flynn said in an interview with Gamesradar+. “Nightingale as a game has a lot of live updates. We benefit greatly from connecting with players through that process, and that’s something that’s much harder at BioWare. Making a story-first game means, how do you do that? And build on the story and not ruin it? That’s a hard problem to solve.” Flynn went on to say that Baldur's Gate 3 “did an incredible job” of delivering a satisfying story both during its early access period and when the game finally released several years later. “That was never in our plans at BioWare,” he said, “at least in my opinion.” The veteran RPG developer finds it “frustrating” to see other teams “having so much success by connecting deeply with their community and learning from them, and trying things with them, and doing things,” while lamenting the fact that letting the community in “isn’t something we do at BioWare.”
